SilvIA Earth at Greencities 2026: wildfire prevention is also municipal

SilvIA Earth attended Greencities, Urban Intelligence & Smart Mobility, the forum on smart and sustainable urban management held on 15 and 16 September at FYCMA, the Málaga Trade Fairs and Congress Centre.

Our goal was to connect with public administrations, companies and knowledge centres that share the same challenge: bringing technological innovation to the real management of the territory. In our case, to wildfire prevention.

Greencities: a leading forum for territory management

This 2026 edition of Greencities was held alongside the 6th Smart City Congress of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI), which strengthened the presence of municipal officials and experts in urban management challenges.

According to the figures announced by the organisers, the event brought together more than 80 cities and municipalities, some thirty mayors, over 200 companies and organisations, 115 speakers and representation from eleven countries. The programme revolved around data, artificial intelligence, the ecological transition, water, waste and mobility, with various talks and the City Speakers initiative, a dedicated space to present projects and specific challenges and needs.

Why a wildfire-prediction company at a cities forum

Although it might seem that wildfires are an exclusively rural matter, reality is very different. A large part of the risk is now concentrated in the wildland-urban interface, where housing developments, industrial estates, roads and infrastructure coexist with vegetation. That is where a fire goes from being an environmental problem to becoming an emergency for the population. Sadly, we saw it this year in Madrid, Ávila and Niebla.

Municipalities also play a direct role in this chain. They take part in local emergency planning, manage decisions on clearing plots and protection strips, coordinate warnings to residents and must decide, with limited resources, where and when to act. These are decisions that depend on having good information far enough in advance.

That is exactly where SilvIA Earth works. We develop artificial-intelligence models that estimate wildfire risk before ignition occurs, from satellite data of the European Copernicus programme combined with weather, vegetation and terrain variables. The result shows which areas have the highest probability of fire in the coming days, so that prevention teams can focus their resources before the fire starts. We add a layer of information that complements current detection and firefighting systems, to make better decisions that help reduce wildfire risk.

What we took away from Greencities

Our priority for the coming months is to prepare the 2027 wildfire season together with public administrations and partners that want to validate risk prediction on their territory. Greencities brought together precisely the people who make those decisions and the companies that build the platforms administrations use to manage their services.

In conversations with municipal technicians, companies and institutions, one idea came up again and again: to adopt a new tool, administrations need pilots, verifiable results and models they can understand and explain. It was also clear that no single organisation covers the whole chain of prevention, detection and firefighting on its own, so integrating capabilities is more useful than competing.
